Water, water, everywhere and not a drop to drink… but who needs to hydrate when you can wear ocean inspired frocks and fancies from the world’s most wonderful designers? This summer, style is exploring the depths of the sea.
Chanel went all out for its spring/summer catwalk show, setting the scene in a beautiful under water world decorated with huge glossy white shells and enormous panels of coral jutting out of the faux sea bed. The clothes themselves were ethereal and light, with models’ fingers wrapped around opalescent shell shaped clutches and light reflecting details mimicking a shimmering shoreline. The romantic and feminine collection was highlighted by the model’s hair – decorated with glistening glassy pearls.

Stella McCartney and Giorgio Armani followed a similarly sentimental take on the trend. McCartney created wave-like shapes, cuts and detailing in crisp white, vivid blue and the occasional hint of muted coral, while Mr Armani immersed his collection with sea goddesses. Silver, royal blue, aqua green and indigo swam down the runway in silky creations which would please a mermaid princess.
Making the trend her own, Mary Katrantzou stuck to her signature colourful cocktail dresses with graphic under-sea prints in attention grabbing colour ways.
